Dear all,
If there has ever been in me something called “my life’s mission”, it was to put the bricks together for a befitting monument for my father’s works. Since he was uniquely original in his creativity and outlook, I couldn’t have followed the norm and thrown my weight behind the institution of Awards and Memorial foundations, which run the high risk of getting hijacked by political pettiness, commercial crassness and Satellite silliness.
An online portal– a one-stop destination for all facts Bharat Gopy – seemed to be the best way to complement the body of work of a man, who always believed that it is the work that had to speak and not the person.
My next challenge was to find a technically able and creatively knowledgable person, who would himself be correctly aware of what Bharat Gopy was, as a creator. It’s by sheer luck that I met Biju Ebenezer, of *conditionsapply and his team of supremely exuberant people, who were not only enthusiastic about the site but also well-prepared to be so. From the depths of my heart, I thank Biju and the *conditionsapply team for making this virtual monument a reality.
I also thank my dear friends Gayathri and Visakh Sakthi for the pains they took in helping us with the copies.
I needed an introductory article for the BG site, which would be befittingly grand, and the next thing I did was to ask my dearest friend K Venugopal to write one. Himself a great admirer of my father’s works, Venu took only 20 minutes, I remember, to pen the introductory article, ‘The Actor of Actors’. I cannot thank Venu now, because he is not with me to brush it off with a smile and a pat. I become sad only to smile later, after telling myself that death is just a material crisis, a cosmic joke, that man never survives or gets.
I thank my super pal R Ayyappan, for his fantastic study (The MahaBharat) of the various characters played by Achchan, on screen.
To conclude my letter, let me dedicate this site to all those who love BG, for what he really was: “Actor of Actors”. I am thankful specifically to technology and surely to Providence for facilitating this venture.
I place at my father’s feet all my life’s works– the ones that have been accomplished and the ones that are to be; I can most definitely say that all I am and all that has been seen and is to be seen of me, is not even 1 per cent of what He was.
Since my father was not a self-curio collector of sorts, this site has been built from all that I have with me, in our drawers and trunks. I solemnly solicit any possible/ probable contribution from fans, towards the enhancement of the site.
So, that’s it.
Having done this site (www.bharatgopy.com), I really feel like hopping on to my steed, adjusting my hat, and galloping on to the horizon. Let the titles roll…
Your truly,
Murali Gopy

Bharat Gopy’s Filmography
Bharat Gopy’s uniqueness as a film actor lay in his brilliant portrayals onscreen, based on narratives that spoke of life in all its simplicity, with a profundity that bordered on the divine. Take me there.
Awards and Honors
4 National Awards as Actor, Producer and Director and Author, the Kerala State Award for the Best Actor in 1977, 1982, 1983 and 1985 – the accolades did not stop there. Show me the complete list.
I am intrigued by this man. He is quite the character and I am now forced to dig up some of his older works and take a closer look and get a feel for what he was. I feel like I have not given him what is due (who am I though?). But, however insignificant I am or have to contribute, I have to give what I have. I shall be back after I finish my viewing of his work with some thoughts.
Sorry for writing in tamil. i can express my views only in tamil. today i saw the movie “yavanika”.
Bharat Gopi was in many ways an enigma who had few peers on craftsmanship… A right way to pay tribute is to know the great actor through his work. A well assorted site which provides all needed details to know the great actor who never fell into the lines of stereotypes.
